In a significant move aimed at empowering the youth and tackling substance abuse, members of The Imenti Development Forum (IDF) have donated Sh1 million for the establishment of an ICT Hub at Ngiine Secondary School.

This initiative promises to equip students and local communities with vital technological skills, creating productive avenues away from drugs and alcohol.

Led by patron and esteemed lawyer Mugambi Imanyara, along with chairman Charles Mbogori and other dedicated officials, the IDF is determined to reverse the concerning trend of youth alcoholism and high dropout rates among promising students.

“Our mission is to restore the lost glory of the Imenti sub-tribe through education, agriculture, and business, while addressing the critical pillars of social, political, and economic wellbeing,” stated Imanyara during a recent visit to the school.

According to Imanyara the ICT Hub is not just an investment in the school but aims to serve the wider North Imenti constituency, benefitting communities in Ngiine, Kithoka, and Munithu.

“Our young people are the most affected by the scourge of third-generation alcohol. Together, we can save this generation,” Imanyara emphasized passionately.

During the event, the IDF team underlined the urgent need to prioritize education, highlighting its current decline due to high dropout rates and early pregnancies.

Muthaura Njogu, the Vice Secretary, remarked, “Our schools are struggling because our children are falling prey to alcoholism. This ICT center will provide them with the skills they need to find online job opportunities.”

The IDF has also raised concerns about the lack of significant infrastructure projects in the region, pointing to a disconnection from the current government.

“For the first time, the Imenti community feels left out of this administration. Our professionals are being sidelined without cause,”Mbogori lamented.

Urging more professionals to join the IDF, Mbogori highlighted the importance of a united voice in advocating for the community’s needs.

The IDF has previously supported the construction of two additional social centers in Imenti South and Imenti Central, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable development. As the IDF embarks on this new venture, the hope is palpable with the community and leaders aiming at creating a brighter future for the youth of Imenti, empowering them through technology and education.
