MCA withdraws impeachment motion against Governor Mwangaza
Meru Nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya is expected to withdraw the notice of motion for the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza this afternoon.
In a notice seen by The County Focus, Kinya, who also serves as the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, intends to withdraw the impeachment motion that was tabled on July 17, 2024.
This decision comes just a day after the High Court in Meru, under the guidance of Justice Linus Kassan, directed the Njuri Njeke Supreme Council of Elders to mediate the ongoing dispute between the Meru Governor and the County Assembly.
The Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders subsequently sought to be admitted as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) in the impeachment case filed by Governor Mwangaza, challenging the motion against her by the County Assembly of Meru.
In an affidavit identifying Governor Mwangaza as petitioner and the County Assembly of Meru as respondents, the Njuri Ncheke Council expressed its desire to contribute to the petition based on its knowledge and expertise relevant to the case.
The elders argued that their inclusion would provide valuable input to assist the court in rendering a decision.
“It is in the interest of justice that the proposed amicus curiae be enjoined to assist the court by offering information, expertise, and insight that has a bearing on the issues in the case, ultimately leading to a justiciable finding,” read the affidavit by Njuri Ncheke Secretary General Josphat Murangiri Kiriinya.
