Mwindu urges parents to prioritize their children’s education

By Christine Ngitori

Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Susan Mwindu has issued a heartfelt plea to parents, advising them to enroll their children in schools that are financially manageable rather than stretching their resources to afford pricier options.

In addition, Mwindu encouraged teenage mothers eager to continue their education to take advantage of nearby day schools included in her scholarship program.

“I am here to support any motivated and deserving student who wants to pursue their studies,” she affirmed.

The MP also called for greater regional infrastructure development, highlighting the need for a local court and prison to spare residents from long journeys to access essential services.

Her advocacy has already led to establishing a civil registry and a Huduma Centre in Maara Constituency.

“Soon, we will see the creation of a KMTC, a functional court, and a land registry in our area. We must reflect on why we elected an MP without tangible results over three terms. If it weren’t for my efforts advocating for your rights, good governance, and representation, many would continue to suffer,” Mwindu declared.

Speaking at Mwimbi Ward while distributing scholarships to a student facing financial constraints, Mwindu also appealed to the Ministry of Education.

She urged a review of the new university funding model, which she believes unfairly categorizes students, potentially leading to high dropout rates.

“It’s disheartening to see students placed in Band 5 while their parents belong to Band 1, making it nearly impossible for families to support their education,” she remarked.

Mwindu called on local authorities, particularly area chiefs, to actively monitor student placements and rectify any discrepancies to ensure every child receives the education they deserve.
