North Imenti MP urges DP Kindiki to fast-track establishment of Imenti East
By Gerald Mukembu
North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has called on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to expedite the establishment of the gazetted Imenti East constituency and its accompanying locations and sub-locations.
Dawood highlighted that Kindiki, during his tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary, was responsible for the gazettement, but the deployment of government officials such as the Deputy County Commissioner, chiefs, and assistant chiefs has been sluggish even after his promotion to Deputy President—a delay that is hindering effective service delivery in the region.
“I urge Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to make Imenti East operational. I am committed to following up on this issue to ensure that we activate our locations and sub-locations to have the necessary administrative leaders in place,” Dawood stated.
While speaking at the constituency NGC-DF offices, where he distributed 10,000 liters climate change mitigation tanks to local school principals, Dawood expressed his willingness to lead protests if required to ensure the functionality of these governance units.
The tanks, accompanied by gutters for the collection of safe rainwater, are intended to enhance access to clean drinking water. Dawood emphasized the importance of supervising their use, urging principals to safeguard the tanks. “It is tragic that we lost a child who fell into a tank in Rwanyange while trying to collect water. We must prevent repeat incidents,” he urged.
Dawood also highlighted the pressing need for educational facilities, noting a shortage of approximately 29 Grade 9 classrooms in the constituency. “CDF will construct 12 classes, and PS Belio Kipsang has agreed to build an additional 15 by April next year. We’re currently seeking approval for the 12 classrooms. We are also investing in several ECDE classrooms, although it is not typically within CDF responsibilities,” he added.
He encouraged constituents to complete bursary application forms for their school-aged children. “As of yesterday evening, 11,000 forms have been distributed. We are collaborating with the principals to fund at least 50% of day school fees so that no child faces expulsion next term,” Dawood said.
Mwiti Muketha, one of the principals, commended Dawood’s efforts in enhancing the educational environment for both students and teachers. “Water is life, and his commitment to improving facilities for our community is truly inspiring,” he remarked.
Dawood has already provided more than 900 tanks to various institutions within his constituency.
