Ruto shakes up cabinet as Duale swapped to Environment
In a sudden twist, just days after President William Ruto announced his new cabinet, he has made a major shake-up.
Aden Duale, who was initially appointed as the Defence Cabinet Secretary, has been moved to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. Soipan Tuya will now take charge of the critical Defence docket.
The surprise move was announced by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula during a session on Tuesday afternoon.
Duale has since expressed gratitude to the President for the new role, saying he is eager to focus on sustainable environmental management and combating climate change.
“I am grateful to President William Ruto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring the focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts,” Duale said.
Duale’s new role comes as a surprise, days after his recent praise for Ruto’s leadership style.
In an interview earlier this month, he lauded Ruto as a sober leader who consults widely before making decisions. He also defended Ruto’s economic policies, saying that despite initial complaints from Kenyans, the President has delivered results, with food and fuel prices decreasing and inflation at a low 1%.
The sudden shuffle has left many wondering what other changes are in store for Kenya’s new administration.
With Tuya taking charge of Defence and Duale focusing on environmental issues, it will be interesting to see how these changes impact Kenya’s national security and environmental policies.
