Munya vows to revive Meru’s glory if elected in 2027

By Gerald Mukembu

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya has urged residents to elect him in the upcoming 2027 elections, promising to restore the county’s lost glory and address what he termed as national shame.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Party of National Unity (PNU) office in Mikinduri, Tigania East, Munya criticized the current leadership under Governor Kawira Mwangaza, claiming her tenure has seen the county lag due to ongoing political dramas and conflicts with local MCAs.

Munya expressed concern that essential development initiatives he initiated while in office, such as Meru microfinance projects, the provision of ambulances in hospitals, and improvements in local healthcare, have been halted. “I am ready to redeem these projects and ensure their implementation for the benefit of all residents,” he stated.

Addressing the competition from other candidates, Munya expressed confidence in his ability to reclaim the governorship, asserting that he did not lose it but was a victim of election rigging. “The individual responsible for the rigging faced consequences after being dethroned. I have no doubt that I will reclaim my rightful position,” he remarked.

Munya appealed to his fellow PNU candidates to engage in peaceful campaigns, emphasizing the importance of unity in their efforts.

He also referred to a private survey he conducted, which he claims shows he is currently leading his competitors. “Igembe is my stronghold, and Imenti has already pledged their support for my gubernatorial bid. The people of Meru know I am the one who can end the ongoing political shenanigans and restore dignity to our county,” he asserted.

The former governor criticized what he perceives as the incompetence of the current administration, urging leaders to stop deceiving voters and to engage in constructive dialogue with MCAs. “I respect the Governor, but the continuous conflicts with MCAs indicate a lack of leadership. It’s time to resolve these issues amicably before I take over,” he added
