Meru leaders rally behind Gachagua amid political turmoil

By Gerald Mukembu

Over 50 political figures, activists, and opinion leaders from Meru have publicly declared their steadfast support for impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Leading the group, Meru County Senator aspirant Timothy Kithinji criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for failing to deliver on its promises to the citizens, accusing it of resorting to lies and political betrayal.

The leaders urged Gachagua to remember the Meru community when he forms his political movement and if clinches the power in 2027.

“We traveled from Meru to better understand Rigathi Gachagua and his political direction moving forward,” Kithinji stated.

He emphasized the importance of unity in order to secure a fair share of national resources, advocating for a single political voice.

“We aim to advocate for our rightful share of development through a united political stance,” he said. “We have observed that the ODM party has been significantly rewarded by President Ruto; why can’t we establish our own party?”

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Kithinji expressed the need for Meru residents to come together and support Gachagua in leading the next government.

“We must collaborate and show our commitment. We are willing to stand by Gachagua because we believe he is our key to success. The people elected you; stop intimidating them. It’s evident that your leadership has faced rejection due to dishonesty, high taxation, and poor governance. Focus on alleviating the economic challenges that are affecting the community rather than threatening those who oppose the government,” he added.
