Kindiki: Government to crush banditry in Meru once and for all

Deputy President Kindiki speaking at Mwichiune Market, South Imenti
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing security in Meru County, pledging to “crush bandits once and for all” following a rise in attacks in the northern part of the county.
While on an inspection tour of the newly constructed Mwichiune Fresh Produce Market in Abogeta East Ward, the Deputy President announced that a multi-agency security team is already on the ground to target the armed bandit groups involved in the recent killings and cattle stealing.
The Deputy President also revealed that the team comprises additional special forces, land, and air support from the police, working in conjunction with the military to destroy the bandit hideouts and recover the stolen cattle.
The construction of the new market, which has now been completed, is expected to revolutionize trade in the region by offering traders a decent working environment, including cold storage to help curb post-harvest losses.
The new market has a social hall, a lactation room for mothers with babies, and a fully equipped ICT hub to help traders embrace e-commerce and digital trade.
He also announced that the construction of Nithi Bridge would soon begin, and the people would see the construction completed before the 2027 Kenyan General Election.
He further highlighted the ongoing infrastructure development in Imenti South Constituency and the entire county, stating that the multi-billion shilling investments in road, water, and electricity projects are underway.
