Over 300 Youth Graduate in Chuka as Huawei DigiTruck Deepens Digital Inclusion Drive

Graduates hold their certificates during the Huawei DigiTruck ceremony in Chuka Town, an initiative supporting digital inclusion and youth empowerment across Tharaka-Nithi County.

Over 300 youth and community members in Tharaka-Nithi County have graduated from the Huawei DigiTruck programme, marking a significant milestone in efforts to expand digital skills and bridge the technology gap in underserved areas.

The training, delivered through Huawei’s mobile digital classroom, covered Maara, Chuka and Marimanti constituencies, equipping participants with practical skills in computer applications, internet use, communication technologies and online opportunities essential for today’s fast-evolving digital economy.

The graduation ceremony, held at the Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) Grounds in Chuka Town, was presided over by Olemoke Hillary, Director in the State Department for Fisheries and Blue Economy, who represented Principal Secretary Betsy Muthoni Njagi.

Hillary said the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to building a digitally empowered and inclusive economy through targeted youth capacity-building programmes.

“Digital literacy is no longer optional. It is a critical tool for unlocking opportunities in sectors such as banking, security and the global online job market,” he said.

He urged the graduates to leverage the acquired skills to improve their livelihoods, create employment and contribute to national development, noting that the government has established digital hubs to support continuous learning and innovation.

He added that plans are underway, in collaboration with partners, to equip the hubs with laptops and other resources to ensure sustainability of digital training initiatives.

Huawei Kenya Public Affairs Director, Yuta Leng, said the DigiTruck programme is designed to take digital training directly to communities that have limited access to technology.

“Our goal is to ensure no one is left behind by bringing digital skills closer to the people and equipping them with tools for innovation, productivity and competitiveness,” she said.

Leng noted that the programme has already reached thousands of learners across the country and will continue expanding to more counties as part of Huawei’s broader digital inclusion agenda.

Tharaka-Nithi becomes the 41st county to benefit from the DigiTruck initiative, which has so far trained over 10,000 youth, women, teachers and small business owners across Kenya.

Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation for the training, saying it had opened up new opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and access to information.

One of the graduates, Allan Munene, said the skills gained would enable him to explore online work opportunities and improve his income.

He encouraged other young people to take advantage of such programmes, noting that digital skills are increasingly becoming essential in the modern job market.

The Huawei DigiTruck initiative continues to play a key role in supporting Kenya’s Vision 2030 by promoting digital literacy and enabling more citizens to participate in the knowledge-based economy.
