Prof Kindiki said the Cabinet has already approved the initial money to undertake construction of the multi-billion Nithi Bridge located a few kilometres from Chuka town along the Meru-Embu-Nairobi highway.
“I am aware Nithi Bridge has been a thorn in the flesh where we have lost so many lives. Good news is that the first installment to pay for the construction of a new bridge at the site has been approved by the Cabinet as per the orders from President William Ruto,” Prof Kindiki said.
The DP castigated against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accusing him of being a stumbling block to development projects in the region.
“He never bothered to initiate any tangible development projects in the county. He didn’t have any people’s interests. If he never did a single project, what will he do as a mayor Raia (common resident). He is a liar,” Prof Kindiki said.
The deputy President asked leaders inciting violence in Mt. Kenya region to desist warning that such retrogressive acts will not be tolerated.

The DP said the destruction and looting witnessed during recent protests is regrettable, calling on residents not to fall prey to politicians keen to cause unrest in the region for personal gain.
“We have had many politicians before competing against each other over ideologies but we have never witnessed the kind of destruction we saw recently. Why have we stooped this low as a community? Let us compete over policies and ideologies and let the people decide who has the best of them,” he said.
Prof. Kindiki said it is unacceptable for hardworking Kenyans operating businesses in Mt. Kenya region to become victims of a looting spree orchestrated by goons.
“Many of these businesspeople built their businesses from scratch and it has taken them decades to be where they are only for some misguided people to destroy it. This will not happen again. What occurred the last few days was the last time it was happening,” he added. He spoke on Wednesday during a consultative engagement meeting with Meru County Leaders.
During the meeting, the DP assured Mt Kenya residents that the government remains committed to completing ongoing projects as well as commencing others.
