Former Imenti North MP Silas Muriuki Rutere, 74, is dead. The former MP died at the hospital in Nairobi after a long illness.
The former Member of Parliament was the sole representative of the Mazingira Green Party of Kenya before ditching the party for Jubilee six years ago
Prior to becoming a member of parliament Muriuki worked as a teacher and was the head teacher of a school for the deaf and a former Knut secretary for the former Eastern Province
Muriuki left parliament after losing his seat during the 2013 elections to Rahim Dawood, serving for only one five-year term after having beaten the former finance minister David Mwiraria in the disputed 2007 elections.
