Governor Kawira agrees to join UDA Party
Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has announced interest to join President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Kawira’s decision comes a day after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called on the Meru Governor to join the ruling party.
Gachagua who was speaking on Friday during an event to Celebrate Solution Sacco’s 30 years of existence, cited the governor’s decision to run as an independent candidate as the cause of her impeachment woes and urged her to join the UDA party.
Speaking during Ushirika Day Celebrations at Kaaga Primary School, Governor Kawira said she will be following the Deputy President and the residents’ wishes.
“Yesterday when the Deputy President asked the people if I should join the UDA party they all agreed that I should. I therefore decided to wear a yellow garment today as a way to show that am heading to the UDA party,” Kawira said after the resident harmoniously called her to join UDA.
The Meru Governor said she will rally her support behind President William Ruto for the region to benefit from major development projects.
Kawira’s announcement comes barely one month after the neighbouring Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan dumped the Jubilee party and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
