Governor Mutuma sacks former Governor Mwangaza’s cabinet, names his own.

Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia has made significant changes to Meru County’s leadership, retaining only Monica Kathono, an accountant, to head the Finance docket. The new appointments emphasize professionalism, experience, and exposure across ten dockets.

Jenaro Gatangugi, who served under the first Governor Peter Munya, has been nominated for the Agriculture docket. Lawyer Marius Maranya, a former County Assembly attorney, will oversee Legal Affairs, Public Service Management, and Administration. Dr. David Bariu, a seasoned educationist from the Munya regime, returns as the Roads and Transport executive member, while renowned medical trade unionist Dr. Dennis Mugambi has been nominated for Health Services.

Former Municipality MCA Elias Murega Julius is set to lead the Sports docket, pending approval. Other nominees include Isaac Kinoti for Lands, Urban Development, and Public Works; Rev. Dr. Carol Kaberia for Trade, Tourism, and Cooperatives; Advocate Baptista Kanyaru Muriki for Water, Environment, and Natural Resources; and Dr. Esther Rukunga for Education, Science, and Arts.

Additionally, County Secretary Kiambi Atheru has been retained, and Julius Mbijiwe has been appointed as Chief of Staff. These changes reflect a strategic approach to governance in Meru County.
