In a bold move to uplift the community amid political turbulence, Governor Kawira Mwangaza has officially handed over the Timau Market site to contractors, showcasing her unwavering commitment to enhancing infrastructure in Meru County.
This significant step comes despite ongoing political storms, including impeachment threats.
Mwangaza declared her commitment to her vision of transforming the local economy through the development of an ultramodern market among other developments.
“I will not be deterred by the challenges ahead. My focus remains on delivering for our people,” Governor Mwangaza stated, embodying the resilience that characterizes her leadership style.
The governor highlighted the critical partnership with the Small-Scale Irrigation and Value Addition Project (SIVAP) as a cornerstone of this initiative, aimed at revolutionizing local commerce.
“Today, I am pleased to announce that we have officially handed over the site for the construction of an ultramodern market facility at a cost of Sh36,040,893. We expect the construction to be completed within the next four months,” she confirmed, her resolve evident.
Mwangaza underscored the market’s transformative potential, stating, “Upon completion, this facility will not only enhance local commerce but will also improve market amenities, boosting the efficiency of trading activities and creating a conducive environment for local vendors and consumers.”
In addition to the market project, the governor has initiated vital sanitation improvements in the area.
“I have issued cheques totaling Ksh450,000 in subsidies to eight landlords from informal settlements in Timau for the construction of 24 modern toilets,” she announced.
This initiative, in collaboration with the Water Sector Trust Fund, aims to significantly improve water supply and sanitation for low-income urban residents.
As part of her commitment to youth empowerment, Mwangaza revealed plans to support local youth groups by providing a motorbike and a high-pressure car wash machine to facilitate income-generation efforts.
The governor also emphasized her dedication to public health.
“We have equipped Community Health Promoters (CHPs) with replacement kits to ensure seamless healthcare delivery at the household level,” she added, reaffirming her commitment to enhancing health services in the community.
