High hopes for Miraa traders as Senator Kathuri, DG M’Ethingia meet Mombasa Governor
It is a relief to Miraa farmers and traders in Meru County after their Senator Kathuri Murungi and Deputy Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia paid a courtesy call to Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir days after Mombasa planned to introduce a raft of measures, including an increase in cess charges on khat trucks, as well as restrictions on where traders can sell their wares.
According to the Meru Senator their visit is geared up towards a discussion on Miraa business in Mombasa.
Senator Kathuri noted that they will be meeting Miraa Business Community before convening another meeting with the Mombasa governor in a bid to strike a business deal.
“Paid a courtesy call at the Mombasa County Governor as we embark on our discussion on Miraa Business in Mombasa. We are meeting the Miraa Business Community today at 3pm then meet the Governor again tomorrow at 2PM,” the Meru Senator noted.
Other leaders present in the meeting were Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki and Mvita MP Machele Mohamed Soud.
The legislator visit comes after after the county government banned the sale of miraa and muguka near places of worship and schools. The ban has also affected general shops, sparking uproar from users.
