To lead, foster unity, Governor Guyo has terribly failed- says Ameru Spokesperson Thuranira

By Gerald Mukembu

Disunity among the Ameru community in Isiolo County is denying them key leadership opportunities, Ameru spokesperson Mwenda Thuranira has said, calling for urgent efforts to foster unity and inclusive development.

Speaking during a local radio interview, Thuranira said Ameru, who form the second-largest community in Isiolo must come together to strengthen their political representation at both county and national levels.

“We are the second largest community in Isiolo. It is time we unite and speak in one voice, failure to which, we are doomed. I will never let my community down. I intend to bring together all stakeholders, aspirants, and community leaders towards putting our house in order as the Meru community in Isiolo. United we achieve more,” he said.

Thuranira, who narrowly lost the Isiolo North parliamentary seat in 2022, criticized the current county leadership for poor governance and underdevelopment.

Thuranira criticised Governor Abdi Guyo’s leadership and governance saying Isiolo lacks tangible progress despite having access to sufficient resources, adding that insecurity and drug abuse among the youth have worsened due to neglect and mismanagement.

He said he doesn’t regret supporting the impeachment of Guyo.

Guyo survived an impeachment attempt in the Senate in July 2025 and has made significant changes to his administration.

Thuranira pledged to lobby for resources to complete key infrastructure projects, including the Isiolo Stadium, Isiolo Airport, and the main market, while also pushing for the issuance of title deeds in Isiolo Town, Bula Pesa, and Mwangaza among other areas.

“Once the stadium, market, and airport are completed, they will create more jobs for our youth and women. Our people can’t access loans or develop their land without title deeds,” Thuranira added.

Thuranira reaffirmed his dedication to uniting the Ameru community, saying only collective action can guarantee meaningful representation and sustainable progress for Isiolo residents.

Beyond politics, The CEO My Space Properties has gained recognition for his philanthropic work across Isiolo and Meru counties. Through various community programs, he has supported vulnerable families with food relief, educational bursaries, and empowerment initiatives that help women start small businesses.

Local residents have praised his ongoing commitment to uplifting widows and single mothers facing economic hardships.

“Our commitment goes beyond politics. We must lift our people, especially women and the vulnerable, to ensure no family is left behind as we push for development,” he said.
