Meru Deputy Speaker loses two daughters following a grisly road accident

Meru deputy speaker Mwenda Ali, was involved in a fatal road accident losing his two children aged two and six years.
The accident occurred at Ena, on Tuesday along the Embu-Nairobi highway, after his car, a Subaru registration number KCX 290M collided head-to-head with a Toyota double cabin registration number KCZ 751R coming from the opposite direction, his car flaming to ashes.
One of the children, Mellisa Makena, died on the spot and the other succumbed on arrival to the hospital after sustaining serious internal stomach injuries.
His driver Michael Mwongera was injured during the accident which caused traffic on the busy highway.
The legislator and others were rushed to Ena Hospital for treatment, after which they were airlifted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi for specialized treatment.
According to the police report, Mr Ali was seated in the passenger seat. he sustained a deep cut on his forehead, dislocated left knee, and chest pains.
Embu County Police Commander Nicholas Maina confirmed that Mwenda was aboard with his vehicle, children, and a driver when the accident occurred.
“It was a fatal accident but the Deputy speaker survived and was airlifted to Nairobi together with other victims who were involved in an accident,” he said.
The commander urged people to be keen while traveling to avoid accidents that have been greatly witnessed all over the country resulting in the loss of lives.
Efforts by the area locals to rescue the politician’s daughter proved fruitless after the vehicle burst into flames.
The car was extensively damaged and was towed to Embu West police station for inspection.
