Meru grieves the sudden passing of former Redcross coordinator

Meru was thrown into mourning on Saturday following the sudden death of Gitonga Mugambi, the former Eastern Region Kenya Red Cross coordinator.
Friends and family shared the heartbreaking news, marking the loss of a man renowned for his unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes and crisis management.
Mugambi was celebrated for his effectiveness as a leader and his caring nature, touching the lives of countless individuals in need.
He was a beloved figure, known for being resourceful, philanthropic, and always ready to lend a helping hand.
In one poignant moment, Mugambi fiercely criticized school boards for charging parents exorbitant fees after arson incidents, stating, “Let’s not exploit our people in their moments of need. Most students are innocent victims of circumstances. Be fair with costs—let’s put an end to this robbery without violence.”
His untimely passing follows a week-long battle for recovery in the ICU at Chogoria Mission Hospital.
“He was incredibly resourceful during his time at the Red Cross. I’ve lost a dear friend,” Local reporter Mugure Rungu expressed her devastation
The outpouring of grief reflects Mugambi’s profound impact on the community, as many remember him as a tireless advocate for those in distress.
David Muchui, chairperson of the Meru Press Club, emphasized Mugambi’s relentless commitment to aiding others, while fellow journalist Phoebe Okal highlighted his selfless dedication to humanity.
Among his many friends, KTN cameraman Edwin Gitonga struggled to process the news, remarking, “It’s hard to accept that my good friend is gone. But we must trust in God’s plan.”
Koome Kimechu, a journalist, reflected on Mugambi’s impact on the community: “You were a true philanthropist and defender of human rights. Your vibrant spirit will be missed.”
Meru MCA Gacheri Muthuri shared his own memories of Mugambi’s quick response during a fire incident at a local school.
“You mobilized essentials for the children without hesitation—your compassion knew no bounds,” she reminisced.
