Meru’s 220-Unit housing complex set to transform community living with luxurious homes

The 220-unit housing complex at Meru is designed to meet international standards, offering residents a luxurious living experience without the need to venture outside for shopping, thanks to conveniently located commercial shops within the complex.
Currently, the national government’s affordable housing initiative at the Meru 2 site is 16% complete, with engineers committed to finishing the project by January 2026.
Engineer Jesse Rukunyi from Agrobriq Investment Ltd, the company responsible for the construction, provided updates during a media visit to the Mwendatu area of Meru Town. He shared that the complex will feature 220 housing units alongside commercial shops.
“We have engaged local labor, with a total of 88 workers contributing to the project. Additionally, we are providing practical training opportunities for TVET students from various institutions, including Meru National Polytechnic,” Rukunyi stated.
Architect Bisher Fawaz, the team leader for the Meru 2 affordable housing project, detailed that the units will include one-bedroom and two-bedroom houses, along with a shopping area and a playground for children.
Imenti North Deputy County Commissioner Odilia Ndeti confirmed that the contractor is adhering to the timeline outlined in the contract documents. She encouraged local residents interested in homeownership to consult the Ministry of Housing for guidance on acquiring a unit once the project is completed and advertised.
“Meru residents should seize the opportunity to purchase these homes once they’re made available, benefiting from the government’s affordable housing project,” Ndeti urged.
Mason Nicholas Buundi Ibrahim, a worker on the Meru 2 affordable housing project, expressed gratitude for the opportunities it has provided for him and his family. “This project has greatly benefited us, enabling me to support my family and cover our expenses,” he said.
Buundi called on the national government to continue such worthwhile initiatives to uplift Kenyans and encouraged job-seeking youth to explore opportunities in government projects.
