Mwangaza supporters call for enhanced security amid protests

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza supporters have urged Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to bolster her security due to escalating protests aimed at ousting her from office.
Led by activist Mike Makarina, they expressed concerns for Mwangaza’s safety, alleging that former Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, and ex-Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi are inciting unrest and paying individuals to disrupt her leadership.
Makarina emphasized that the threats against Mwangaza intensified after she decided to join the UDA party.
Despite being impeached by a majority of Meru MCAs, whose decision was upheld by the Senate, Mwangaza secured conservatory orders from the High Court, allowing her to remain in office.
“I appeal to President William Ruto for intervention. Our Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should not succumb to pressure from MPs threatening his position. We need to shield our governor,” Makarina stated.
Supporters Christine Wanja and Joseph Marete criticized the ongoing protests as politically motivated and claimed that a small group of leaders, driven by personal interests, are manipulating the situation.
“They are paying goons Sh200 to disrupt the peace. Businesses are suffering due to these selfish motives. Why can’t they wait for the court’s ruling?” Marete questioned.
Wanja condemned the mentality of male chauvinism that undermines female leadership, highlighting that over 300,000 people voted for Mwangaza.
She urged the youth not to be exploited for political agendas and called for respect for all leaders.
“If they believe Mwangaza is ineffective, they should allow her the time to lead and face her in the 2027 elections,” Wanja asserted.
