Prof Ataya installed as KeMU Vice Chancellor
As Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) approaches its 24th graduation, it marked a significant turning point with the installation of Prof John Kobia Ataya as its sixth Vice-Chancellor.
This grand ceremony, attended by notable dignitaries including former Meru Governor Peter Munya and KeMU Chancellor Rev Isaiah Deye, presiding bishop of the Methodist Church in Kenya, marked a hopeful beginning for a bright future under Ataya’s leadership.
Munya praised Ataya’s extensive experience, expressing confidence that he will propel KeMU to new heights.
“You have earned this position, and the faith of everyone is behind you. Congratulations, the future is truly bright,” the former Governor and Agriculture CS stated, rallying everyone to unite in support of Ataya’s ambitious vision for transformation.
In his inaugural address, Prof Ataya likened his new role to a calling, reflecting on the significant responsibilities that lie ahead.
“Allow me to express my heartfelt gratitude for being appointed as the sixth vice-chancellor of the University. I have wholeheartedly embraced the responsibilities and the functions of this office,” he remarked, recognizing the challenges and expectations tied to his appointment.
He laid out a transformative vision for KeMU, detailing plans to enhance academic programs, boost research initiatives, and broaden global accessibility for students through innovative learning formats.
“My ambition is to elevate Kenya Methodist University to worldwide recognition,” Ataya declared, vowing to redefine the institution’s presence on the international academic stage.
He emphasized that collaboration and a culture of openness would be foundational to his leadership style, promising to foster an environment where students, staff, and the larger community can actively contribute to the university’s flourishing.
“Leadership is about knowing the way, showing the way, and walking the way,” he asserted, illustrating his dual role as both visionary leader and pragmatic manager, ready to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.
Rev Isaiah Deye blessed the occasion with heartfelt words, urging Ataya to face upcoming challenges with grace and determination.
Meanwhile, Bishop Emeritus Rev. Dr. Lawi Imathiu challenged Ataya to drive excellence through scientific research and educational innovation, highlighting the pressing need for universities to adapt to an evolving global landscape.
The students of Kenya Methodist University, represented by KeMUSA President Masai Chebet, expressed their excitement about Ataya’s vision and the immediate impact he has made since his arrival. Chebet emphasized their readiness to collaborate closely with Ataya to build a brighter future together.
