Ruto defends decision to retain Kindiki in the cabinet
President William Ruto has defended his move to nominate Prof Kithure Kindiki as the new Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior, just a week after dissolving his entire cabinet.
Kindiki is one of the few Cabinet Secretaries who have retained their roles in the new administration.
Speaking at Marimanti in Tharaka Nithi County, President Ruto praised Kindiki’s exceptional leadership skills, citing his successful efforts to counter banditry in Lamu and the North Rift region.
The President acknowledged that Kindiki’s dedication to protecting the country made him reconsider nominating him for the Interior Ministry position.
“Kindiki has demonstrated his ability to effectively manage security operations in the country, particularly in Lamu and the North Rift region. Aendelee ama asiendelee? hebu nione kwa mikono,” the president said in a Swahili dialect.
In response, Kindiki expressed gratitude towards President Ruto, stating that he looks forward to working closely with all leaders if vetted by the National Assembly’s Committee.
The vetting process is set to begin on August 1, 2024, with Kindiki expected to be the first nominee to face the committee at 8 am.
Kindiki’s retention in the cabinet is seen as a testament to his effectiveness in his previous role and his ability to tackle security challenges in Kenya.
