A major political meeting is taking place today in Nairobi, bringing together leaders and Members of Parliament from the United Democratic Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement as part of the emerging broad-based government framework.
The meeting, scheduled at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, will be jointly chaired by William Ruto and Oburu Oginga. It marks the first joint Parliamentary Group session between the two parties since the formation of the broad-based political arrangement.
According to leaders involved in the meeting, MPs from both sides are expected to deliberate on a 10-Point Agenda Report, which outlines key national priorities and areas of cooperation in Parliament. The discussions will focus on pressing national issues, legislative priorities, and strategies aimed at enhancing coordination between lawmakers from the two political outfits.
The session is seen as a significant step in strengthening collaboration within the broad-based government, which has brought together leaders from traditionally rival political camps in an effort to address national challenges and maintain political stability.
However, the move has not been without controversy. Within ODM, some leaders have openly opposed the party’s growing cooperation with UDA, arguing that it risks diluting the party’s identity as an opposition force. The dissent highlights ongoing internal debates over the direction the party should take amid the evolving political landscape.
Despite the divisions, supporters of the arrangement maintain that the partnership is intended to foster unity and ensure the smooth implementation of government programs in Parliament.
