Safari Rally Kenya 2026: Anticipation Builds as World’s Toughest Rally Returns

The stage is set for one of the most thrilling motorsport spectacles on the global calendar as the 2026 WRC Safari Rally Kenya roars back to life from March 12 to March 15 in Naivasha, Nakuru County. As the third round of the 2026 World Rally Championship (WRC), the event is already generating excitement among motorsport fans, local communities, and international visitors eager to witness the legendary rally.

Known worldwide for its rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, and breathtaking landscapes, the Safari Rally remains one of the most demanding events in the championship. Drivers will navigate rocky tracks, dusty plains, muddy sections, and fast gravel roads that test both the endurance of the machines and the skill of the drivers.

This year’s rally will feature approximately 20 competitive stages covering about 350 kilometres, all centred around the Naivasha region. Organizers have streamlined the event by focusing activities within the area, a move aimed at improving logistics and enhancing the experience for teams, spectators, and officials.

Unlike previous editions, the traditional ceremonial start in Nairobi and the Kasarani Super Special Stage will not feature in this year’s programme, with the rally action concentrated entirely in Naivasha. Despite the change, excitement remains high as fans prepare to flock to the rally stages to catch a glimpse of the high-speed action.

More than 40 drivers are expected to participate, including several Kenyan drivers who will be looking to make their mark against some of the world’s best rally competitors. The Safari Rally has always been a stage where local talent can shine, and Kenyan fans are hopeful that homegrown drivers will deliver impressive performances.

Beyond the competition itself, the Safari Rally is a significant economic driver. The event is expected to attract thousands of regional and international visitors, boosting tourism, hospitality, and local businesses across the Naivasha and Nakuru areas. Hotels, campsites, and entertainment spots are already experiencing increased bookings as rally enthusiasts prepare for the four-day spectacle.

The rally also provides a global platform to showcase Kenya’s natural beauty. From the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley to the wildlife-rich surroundings of Naivasha, the event continues to highlight the country as a premier destination for both adventure and tourism.
