Student clashes spark emergency closure of Karumo TTI

By Gerald Mukembu

In a stunning turn of events, Karumo Technical Training Institute has been abruptly closed after violent clashes and confrontations among students erupted on campus, leaving the institution in a state of chaos.

The turmoil, described as an explosion of infighting and protests, forced the administration to act swiftly.

A circular dated October 17, 2024, signed by Principal Flora Njura Kanyua, confirmed the closure, which came after urgent consultations with relevant authorities.

“The students had issues-serious issues. I can’t go into specifics, but we have closed the institution to ensure everyone’s safety,” Principal Kanyua stated in an exclusive telephone interview.

Reports indicate that what began as a trivial dispute between a National Youth Service (NYS) student and a fellow trainee spiraled out of control, igniting tensions across the student body.

Rival factions formed as anger surged, with students vying for dominance, leading to intensified confrontations and widespread upheaval.

In an effort to restore order, all trainees were ordered to vacate the premises by 2:30 PM, with strict warnings that no one would be allowed back after this deadline.

The institution has also set specific return dates for students: TVET CDACC Candidates must report back on October 24, 2024, while KNEC and Internal Exam Candidates are expected on October 31, 2024.
