Social Health Authority (SHA) Director Ms Catherine Mungania has drummed support for comprehensive health coverage for all Kenyans.
Mungania was speaking at the DCC grounds in Chuka town on Tuesday during a significant event where she highlighted the Authority’s substantial progress in extending health coverage to a larger segment of the population compared to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
Ms. Mungania emphasized that SHA’s initiatives are in line with Article 43 of the Kenyan Constitution, which guarantees every citizen the right to accessible healthcare.
“I call on all Kenyans to register with SHA,” she said while promoting the platform’s advanced and inclusive nature that empowers citizens to access essential medical services.
The SHA director also introduced the new Emergency Chronic Fund, a feature not available under NHIF, which aims to ensure that no one is denied medical services during the transition from NHIF to SHA.
Supporting her sentiments, the County Commissioner David Gitonga added that the 2010 Constitution recognizes health as a fundamental right.
He stressed that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, should have access to necessary healthcare services.
Additionally, Gitonga highlighted the importance of reproductive health rights for both men and women and encouraged the community to show patience and support as SHA navigates any challenges during this transition period.
He further noted that the government is committed to advocating for SHA, with the goal of delivering comprehensive and equitable healthcare to all Kenyans, ensuring that no one is left behind.
