Politicians rally for Linturi’s reappointment

Meru politicians allied to former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi have issued a stern warning to President William Ruto urging him reappoint Linturi or risk losing their support in 2027.
They asserted that Linturi played a crucial role in mobilizing Meru’s voters to support the Kenya Kwanza coalition, including President Ruto himself.
Among those voicing their support were Mithika Mzalendo, who narrowly lost to John Paul Mwirigi in the 2022 elections, and Felicity Biriri, who was the runner-up for the Woman Representative seat. They, along with several current and former MCAs, are adamant that loyalty should not go unrewarded.
“Linturi was removed from the Cabinet without just cause. He was nothing but competent in his role. We urge the President to reconsider him; Meru should not give up on a leader who has fought for us,” Biriri declared.
Biriri was speaking during a meeting in Auki, Igembe South, an event that was also attended by Linturi. Biriri also took the opportunity to encourage parents to enroll their children in technical institutions for skill development.
Mzalendo spoke passionately about the intense efforts they made during the campaign, strategizing tirelessly to secure votes for the President, driven by the promise that Linturi would be reinstated in Ruto’s Cabinet.
Former MCA Nturibi Etirikia highlighted the internal politics that cost Linturi his position, claiming it was due to jealousy stirred up by the nine Meru MPs who suggested his dismissal.
“It’s disheartening to see innocence like Linturi’s sacrificed at the hands of our own MPs. When asked if he should be reappointed after the Cabinet reshuffle, they all voted ‘no.’ We worked day and night for Ruto’s votes—now we want that promise delivered!” Etirikia lamented.
