As Kenyans celebrated 61 years of independence, the Jamhuri Day celebrations in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi County, took a stern turn as County Commissioner David Gitonga issued a strong warning against criminal activities during the festive season.
With tight security measures and well-coordinated, Mr Gitonga urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities anonymously using the Mulika uhalifu code 988.
“We have put in place tight and well-coordinated security measures to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable celebration,” he said.
The County Commissioner’s warning was underscored by a series of stern messages, including condemning harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and child labor, vowing severe consequences for those caught engaging in these activities.
However, amidst the crime warnings, there were also messages of unity, development, and progress. Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisraeli praised the unity between the county and national governments, while Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to improve the well-being of Tharaka Nithi County residents.
The event saw various issues addressed, from infrastructure and water supply challenges to education and healthcare concerns.
Nominated MCA Purity Wanja encouraged residents to fight poverty through hard work and self-reliance while calling for unity among people with disabilities.
