Leaders from Meru have called on Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa to take decisive action in establishing water projects aimed at alleviating the persistent drought and famine conditions facing the region.
Meru’s Deputy Governor, Mutuma M’Ethingia, stressed the urgent need for effective water solutions to support residents.
“Engineer, you have the opportunity to address the critical water shortages in Meru. We urge you to act swiftly to help end hunger in our community,” he stated.
Igembe North MP Julius Taitumu echoed this sentiment, defending CS Mugaa from political detractors.
“It is essential for leaders to support Engineer Mugaa in his crucial role. You have the authority and expertise in your position, and the people of Meru, along with the clergy, stand firmly behind you,” Taitumu expressed.
CS Mugaa acknowledged the significant water scarcity, particularly in Igembe North, where access remains a challenge. He reassured the community of his commitment to implementing development initiatives in line with President William Ruto’s vision.
These remarks were made during the 5th Anniversary celebration of the MCK Igembe Synod, which was led by Synod Bishop Rev. Gerald Kithure and attended by other bishops and clergy from the Nyambene region.
Congregants commended Bishop Kithure for his leadership, noting the improvements and developments he has spearheaded, including the establishment of new churches. “His mentorship has transformed our community. We are particularly grateful for his commitment to combating issues like FGM and early pregnancies,” said Agnes Kawiria.
Bishop Kithure raised concerns over inadequate rainfall affecting food security in the region and criticized the ongoing incidents of cattle rustling that threaten community safety.
The call for immediate action on water projects highlights the pressing challenges Meru’s residents face and the hope for future relief through collaborative efforts.
