Tharaka Nithi Governor has issued a stern warning to healthcare workers employed in public hospitals who are allegedly spending most of their time attending to patients in their private clinics instead of fulfilling their duties at county health facilities. Speaking on Sunday at PCEA Jennifer Memorial Church, the governor said the county government is closely monitoring the conduct of medical staff and will take disciplinary action against any form of negligence or absenteeism.“It is unacceptable for doctors and nurses to abandon their posts in government hospitals and operate in their own clinics during official working hours.

This is a betrayal to the public and will not be tolerated,” the governor said. He emphasized that health professionals must prioritize service delivery in the institutions where they are formally employed, noting that such behavior undermines the spirit of public service and puts lives at risk. The governor also addressed a recent power outage that disrupted operations at Chuka General Hospital, assuring the public that the situation had been fully resolved. “We experienced a power outage at Chuka General Hospital, but I want to assure residents that everything is now in order.
Services have resumed fully, and we are working to ensure such interruptions are prevented in the future,” he said. On his part, Karingani MCA Muriithi Gaturo urged residents to pay taxes to support ongoing development initiatives, warning that those discouraging others from doing so are enemies of progress. “Paying taxes means development. Let’s all pay our taxes faithfully to support more development projects in our county. Those who tell others not to pay are enemies of development,” said Gaturo. The county government reiterated its commitment to strengthening healthcare services and promoting accountability in public service.
