The exercise, which targets all wards, is aimed at promoting sustainable farming and enhancing food production across the region.
Speaking during a media briefing at his official residence, Governor Mutuma said the program would not only boost maize production but would also include the distribution of coffee and avocado seedlings.
He urged the youth to take farming seriously as a viable source of income.
“We are committed to empowering our farmers. In addition to maize seeds, we will also be distributing coffee and avocado trees to diversify agricultural production and create income opportunities,” said Governor Mutuma.
He also revealed plans to table a Miraa Bill aimed at protecting miraa farmers and streamlining its trade and transportation across the region.

“We are in the final stages of drafting the Miraa Bill. Once enacted, it will ensure miraa farmers and traders are protected and can maximize the benefits of the crop without harassment,” he noted.
On security, the governor highlighted the progress made in restoring peace in parts of Igembe and Ndumuuru, areas previously plagued by rampant livestock theft.
“We have deployed 72 security officers and a county government vehicle to the region, which has significantly improved security. Residents are now living in peace,” Governor Mutuma stated.
He also assured residents of Buuri that similar measures would be taken to address rising insecurity in the area.
“Thugs seem to have shifted their operations to Buuri, but we are alert. More officers will be deployed there soon to ensure the safety of our people and their property,” he added.
Governor Mutuma took the opportunity to criticize former Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who was recently spotted participating in demonstrations in Buuri constituency.
He accused her of hypocrisy and failing to address the very issues she now claims to champion.
“It is unfortunate that former Governor Mwangaza is now leading protests while, during her time in office, she did little to curb insecurity or protect the lives and property of our people. Her actions are selfish and politically motivated,” he said.
Governor Mutuma reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on promises and fostering development across Meru County.
