Meru Flags Off Sh60 Million Medical Drugs Consignment

Meru Deputy Governor Linda Kiome and County Health CECM take a look on the Sh60million drugs consignment

The Meru County Government on Tuesday dispatched medical drugs worth Sh60 million to local health facilities, marking the first delivery of essential medicines for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Deputy Governor Linda Kiome and County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr Denis Mugambi presided over the flag-off event held at the county headquarters. The consignment, supplied by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), will be distributed to all Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals within the county.

The delivery forms part of a Sh300 million budget set aside for medical supplies in the current fiscal year.

Kiome said the exercise underscores the county’s commitment to improving healthcare access and ensuring that medical facilities remain well-stocked.

“Good health is a right, not a privilege. We thank KEMSA for their timely support. The administration of Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia remains focused on ensuring residents receive the medicines and care they need,” Kiome stated, adding that another batch of supplies for health centres and dispensaries will arrive next week.

Health CEC Dr Mugambi said the department is working to avert drug shortages across the county’s 216 public health facilities, emphasizing that reliable healthcare contributes to a more productive population.

“This marks a major step forward in ensuring uninterrupted access to essential medicines and improving service delivery in our high-volume facilities. This delivery includes KES 17,049,051 worth of Health Products and Technologies distributed to our Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals, including Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, Nyambene, Kanyakine, Githongo, Miathene, Mutuati, and others across our sub-counties,” Dr Mugambi
KEMSA representative Charles Maina lauded the county government for its consistency in prioritizing healthcare delivery despite logistical challenges.

Kiome reiterated the administration’s goal of building a robust health system that guarantees access to quality services for all residents, regardless of location.

“Every Meru citizen deserves quality healthcare. Our investment in the health sector aims to create a healthier and more resilient county,” she said.
