Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi has called on Meru residents to resist calls from the opposition to replace their legislators after only one term, arguing that cutting short a leader’s tenure undermines continuity in development.

Addressing a public forum in Tigania East, Mpuru said development projects often stall when new leaders take office, as incoming MPs may abandon or overhaul ongoing initiatives.

He urged voters to give their elected leaders at least two terms, saying five years is too short to design, fund, and complete major programmes. “When a new MP comes in, ongoing projects rarely progress. I appeal to Meru residents not to drop leaders after a single term,” he said.

Mpuru also used the forum to drum up support for President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki ahead of the 2027 polls.

The MP, who returned to Parliament in 2022, said his earlier defeat in 2013 resulted in the suspension of several infrastructure and social projects he had begun. He accused his successor of failing to push them forward, leaving residents without critical services such as improved roads, expanded electricity access, irrigation schemes, and bursaries.

According to Mpuru, his comeback has enabled him to restart previously abandoned projects, and residents are now experiencing visible improvements. He cited ongoing road upgrades and renewed investment in local development as evidence of restored momentum.

Meru Woman Representative Karambu Kailemia backed Mpuru’s sentiments, urging locals to rally behind DP Kindiki—whom she described as a leader with roots in the county while also seeking support for her own re-election and for President Ruto.
