Mutuma Hits Back at Linturi Over Miraa and Leadership Record

Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has sharply responded to criticism from former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, accusing him of failing the people of Igembe during his time in national leadership.
Speaking during a public address, Governor Mutuma questioned Linturi’s track record, particularly regarding development and the protection of the miraa sector, a key economic lifeline for many residents in the region.
Mutuma said Linturi had multiple opportunities to uplift the community while serving as both Member of Parliament and Senator for Igembe but did not deliver meaningful progress.
“You failed to help the Igembe community when you served as MP and Senator. You also messed up the miraa sector when you were Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture for two and a half years. What more do you want to do to this community?” Mutuma posed.
The governor further argued that leadership should be measured by tangible results rather than political statements, emphasizing that the region deserves leaders who prioritize the welfare of farmers and local businesses.
The exchange highlights growing political tensions in Meru County, with leaders trading accusations over development records and the management of the miraa industry, which remains a sensitive and critical issue for thousands of farmers in Igembe and the larger Meru region.
