Gachagua hints at Ruto offering state jobs to Kiraitu, Ragwa
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at a plan by President William Ruto to offer former Meru and Tharaka Nithi Governors-Kiraitu Murungi and Samuel Mbae Ragwa jobs in the government.
Speaking at Kirubia Stadium on Sunday, Gachagua noted that President Ruto had directed him to offer a state job to Mr Kiraitu.
“The president had asked me to find a role that Kiraitu can play in the government but I forgot to do so. However, we will find out how he and these others will benefit from this government,” Gachagua said
Others hinted to get state jobs to include former Tharaka Nithi governor Samuel Mbae Ragwa and former Chuka University Vice Chancellor Erastus Njoka.
Gachagua was reacting to a call by Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki beseeching Ruto to give jobs to his 2022 gubernatorial competitor Mr Njoka and former governor Ragwa.
The statement by DP Gachagua will be a relief to Mr Kiraitu who was drumming support for Azimio during the 2022 campaigns before jumping ship days after the election to Kenya Kwanza.
Kiraitu who reaffirmed his support for President Ruto yesterday lost his gubernatorial seat to Kawira Mwangaza in the August polls, an incident that he blames on backing the Azimio coalition formed by Raila Odinga and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kiraitu ditched the opposition party before the Supreme Court’s decision on the presidential election petition. He lost to Kawira who garnered 209,148 votes, against Mithika Linturi’s 183, 859 votes. Kiraitu finished third with 110, 814 votes.
Currently, the former Meru governor serves in the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC) as a member, a position he bagged days after losing his gubernatorial position.
