Kathuri leads Meru leaders in seeking unity as move ignites storm

A fresh plan by the Meru members of parliament led by Senator Kathuri Murungi to seek reconciliation between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the Members of the County Assembly has sparked a storm of mixed reactions.

Mr Kathuri led Meru MPs to a unity meeting that was spearheaded by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Nairobi yesterday.

According to the Deputy President, the meeting took five hours as he tried to understand issues pertaining to the political wrangles in Meru.

“This evening, I held a five-hour discussion with all elected members of the National Assembly and the Senate from Meru County in an attempt to understand what is ailing our great County of Meru,” Mr Gachagua said on his Facebook account.

Revealing the details of the meeting, Mr Kathuri noted that they discussed the Socioeconomic and political affairs of Meru County.

“Meru County is very important to Kenya Kwanza Government. We are the main shareholders. Twelve out of twelve Members of Parliament that is National Assembly and Senate present. Unity of purpose. Now moving to the next level,” Kathuri noted on his Facebook account.

The move has however sparked mixed reactions among various social media users with some questioning why the Meru Governor was not in the meeting.

Meru leaders minus the governor sounds strange. Why is she isolated? Gitobu Sammy a Facebook user queried.

“Kathuri Murungi how I wish the meeting included the Meru county governor,” Mutua Benjamin said.

“A meeting without our county president is not a meeting. Meru is keenly watching,” Albert Kobia a Facebook user lamented

Responding to the queries the Meru Senator noted that a unity meeting with the Meru governor will be held soon.

Among the MPs in attendance at the meeting were Meru Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia, North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni, and Igembe Central MP Dan Kiili among others.
