Meru Jubilee leaders scold Gachagua for ‘disrespecting’ Uhuru
By Gerald Mukembu
The Meru branch Jubilee party has lambasted Deputy President Rigathi Gachugua over allegations of disrespecting former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The branch chairperson David Karithi said Gachugua should instead convince elders from Embu, Meru, and Kikuyu to root for unity between him and the former president.
Karithi told off Gachagua over allegations of hijacking the Jubilee Party from the former head of state through Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege.
“Making sentiments in the market is not the right thing Gachagua should have done. Uhuru is a statesman and a party leader. He should approach him through the elders if he is serious,” Karithi said.
Additionally, he called on the deputy president to re-employ hundreds of staff who were sacked after the Kenya Kwanza regime took over from Uhuru.
He claimed that the Kenyan Second in command has been sidelined by President William Ruto and this is the reason he has started making appeals to the people he perceived as opponents.
Karithi’s sentiments come after Gachagua called on Uhuru to work with him in uniting the Mt Kenya region.
The Deputy President said he had put aside political animosity and was willing to mend fences with the former head of state
Gachagua who spoke in Kikuyu language termed Uhuru Kenyatta as one of the Mountain’s sons and must join hands for the region’s unity.
The deputy president who has been in constant fights with the former president said the olive branch is meant to diffuse political tension in the Central region. His remarks come after Limuru III meeting that declared Uhuru as the Mt Kenya spokesperson.
