Machogu bans early morning and late school remedial
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has banned early morning and late evening classes for learners.
According to Mr Machogu, the extra classes have been overburdening learners, giving them little or no time to rest.
Machogu said students will not report to class before the break of dawn and will also be required to end school activities before dusk.
The Education CS warned that the government will not allow students to be exposed to a lot of work that can be covered within the stipulated time.
“As we resume our normal education calendar, it is clearly stipulated in the curriculum that learning begins at 8 am and ends at 3.45 pm. We are subjecting our learners to unnecessary struggles by waking them at 4 am to attend lessons in schools by 6 am,” Machogu said.
Kenya Primary Heads Association (KEPSHA) in response asked the Ministry of Education to hire more teachers in order for the directive to be effective.
Machogu had earlier warned principals against sending Junior Secondary School students home over fee arrears.
