CS Linturi presents 11000 doses of cattle vaccines to Meru County

The Agriculture and Livestock Development Department has handed over 11000 doses of livestock vaccines to the Meru County government ahead of a planned vaccination campaign.

The vaccines included 2000 doses of foot and mouth disease and 9000 doses of lumpy skin disease.

In addition, the County government also received two vehicles and five veterinary officers in a bid to enhance the vaccination campaign.

Speaking during the handover event at Meru County Government headquarters on Monday, the Agriculture and livestock development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi said the vaccines will be distributed to reach farmers across the County.

The CS added that his department is keen to partner with county governments to achieve the objective of sustainable agricultural productivity and food security.

“My ministry is keen on partnering with county governments to achieve the objective of sustainable agricultural productivity and food security, as laid out in Kenya Kwanza’s bottom-up manifesto,” Linturi said.

Lauding the Agriculture docket, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza said the vaccines will help in boosting the health and production of domestic animals in the County.

“I’m very delighted to have received a consignment of 11, 000 doses of livestock vaccines from Agriculture CS Hon. Mithika Linturi. This support will be very instrumental in boosting the health and production of our domestic animals in line with my manifesto, and will greatly promote the livestock vaccination exercise that we have been doing as a county,” Ms Mwangaza said

Present during the handover was Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute chairperson Prof. Kimathi Mbogori Kigatira among other officers.
