Senator Cherargei suspended for faulting motion acquitting Kawira
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was on Friday suspended from Senate for three sitting for faulting the Senate Special Committee report that cleared Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza from impeachment.
Cherargei declined orders from the Senate speaker Amason Kingi to apologize for faulting the Committee report against the senate rules.
“You cannot fault your own work, this report is from the senate committee which is part of this house,” Kingi advised Cherangei.
However, Cherargei accused the Senate speaker of denying him the right to speech.
“I cannot be gagged the constitution gives us right to speech. My fellow senators have been discussing this report,” argued Cherangei.
The Senate Speaker ordered Cherargei out of the Senate as per the house rules.
Ms Kawira survived an impeachment motion against her after the Special Senate Committee led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale dismissed the motion seeking to remove her from office.
Meru MCAs had passed the motion accusing the governor of infringing on her constitutional powers.
