Court charges a Meru lady over brewing illicit brew

A court has charged a lady for possession of 120litres of illicit liquor.

Polly Gacheri was charged for processing alcoholic drinks contrary to section 62 of the alcoholic drinks control Act No.4 of 2010 without a license at Meru law court.

Gacheri was found on 21st January 2024 at Kirimene sub location at Nyaki East sub county within Meru County in possession of Muna.

The court heard that Gacheri was also arrested in possession of a metal tin that she used to manufacture Chang’aa.

Gacheri pleaded guilty, pleading with the court to pardon her.

She beseeched the court to pity her arguing that she indulged in the illegal business to raise funds to educate her three kids.

She additionally argued that she is the bread winner of her family.

“I am an orphan and I have three kids, I plead with the Court to pardon me,” she sobbed

The court through Resident Magistrate Hon. H. Nyamwea slapped Gacheri with a fine of Kes 120,000 or a jail term of six months imprisonment.
