Tigania West Member of Parliament John Mutunga on Monday took to the stand before Chief Magistrate Njoroge Muniu at the Meru Law Courts to defend himself over allegations of defamation.
Former area MP David Karithi sued MP Mutunga for damages accusing the current MP of making unsubstantiated claims that he (Karithi) siphoned Sh152million of funds meant for the Kiingirwa Water Project.
MP Mutunga distanced himself from the accusations, claiming his comments on a TV station on October 10, 2019, were related to demonstrations conducted by project members demanding an audit over the mismanagement of funds.
The case hearing will proceed on 3rd July 2024.
