Linda Kiome: Linturi’s gubernatorial running mate appointed Kawira’s legal advisor
For a lady who ventured into politics for the first time last year a few months ahead of the general elections, Linda Kiome Gitonga probably counts herself lucky to almost always find herself at the center of power rather than on the fringes of it.
Appointed as the Chief Legal Adviser to Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, the former Law Society of Kenya acting president becomes one of the few lucky individuals who have been in a different political faction to get a prominent position Inner Circle of the current administration.
With a colorful profile and experienced legal expertise, Ms Kiome is arguably one of the country’s top lawyers.
Lawyer Kiome shone into the limelight last year in January after replacing Nelson Havi as President of the Law Society of Kenya in an acting capacity marking the end of Havi’s two-year reign.
Her star continued to shine and she was unexpectedly named as Mr Mithika Linturi’s gubernatorial running mate three months before last year’s general election, a move that elicited mixed reactions in the Country.
Despite the short period of time that the two campaigned Ms Kiome helped Linturi to garner 183,859 votes, a few votes short of Governor Kawira who clinched the seat with 209,148 votes.
Lawyer Kiome has also been part of the tribunal that was appointed by President William Ruto to investigate the embattled four IEBC Commissioners that included Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi, and Irine Masit.
Kiome and her team which was led by Justice Aggrey Muchelule’s made news for their investigations and recommendation of the removal of IEBC commissioner Irene Masit from office.
The ambitious lady is also the chairperson of the LSK Mt Kenya branch caucus. She has also served as a board member of Meru National Polytechnic and Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital. She is also the daughter to former Meru Municipality Ward representative Kiome Rimbere, who served as the Meru Municipal Council mayor between 2009 and 2012
Social Media users however received the news of his latest appointment cheerfully with the majority of them led by Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi congratulation the young lawyer for her appointment. Below are some of the comments;
